FAIR FASHION MARKET
Jungle Folk is proud to be among the first Swiss revolutionaries who have joined this movement and continue to make hands-on contributions. The annual campaign brings together the world's largest fashion activism movement for seven days of action surrounding the anniversary of the Rana Plaza collapse. This year, the campaign will run from Monday 18th to Sunday 24th of April, under the theme of MONEY FASHION POWER, with the aim to collectively reimagine a just and equitable fashion system for people and planet.
This starts with valuing your suppliers and garment workers. At Jungle Folk, we cherish the relationships that we have established throughout the past years. Among these, we particularly think of our partnerships in Peru with Gabriela and Maria from Royal Knit and Adbel from Peruvian Knitwear. These companies not only knit the finished garments, but they also source the necessary material themselves - for example, finest baby alpaca wool - sustainably, locally and social ethically.
Making garments isn't cheap, it is hard work but done with respect it holds great beauty. One aspect of this is that we don't negotiate the supplier's prices. No powerplay is necessary: through mutual trust and deference, we are sure to receive a fair quote. This boosts the garment worker's motivation as well which translates into the wonderful quality you're used to from our knitwear. In the end, it is so easy: Good Clothes equal Fair Pay.
Some final inspiration from what Orsola de Castro, co-founder and creative director of Fashion Revolution says about this year's campaign:
"As we enter our 9th year, we will go back to our core, exposing the profound inequities and social and environmental abuses in the fashion supply chains. From the uneven distribution of profits to overproduced, easily discarded fashion, to the imbalances of power that negate inclusion. On the other hand, inspiring new designers, thinkers and professionals all over the world are challenging the system with solutions and alternative models. Fashion Revolution Week is all of this, scrutinising and celebrating fashion, globally and locally, wherever you are."
